KATHMANDU, Sept 8: The goods that are being imported to Nepal for Dashain festival are stranded in the Tibet region for weeks.

Containers loaded with clothes, electronic devices, fruits and other items are not allowed to enter Nepal. The fruits have already started rotting, said Chairperson of Sindhupalchowk Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Raj Kumar Basnet.

The apples loaded in some 50 containers are rotting soon. The traders bringing apples in Nepal are all Chinese. The Chinese government has ordered to stop goods-carrying vehicles entering Lhasa from the China mainland for the time being in a bid to stop further spread of COVID-19 pandemic.

Chairman Banset shared that over 200 containers were stopped at Kerung and around 100 containers at Khasa.

Chief of Tatopani Dry Port Custom Office, Narad Gautam, said that the import of goods was prohibited. The lockdown imposed from August 8 in different cities of Tibet due to coronavirus infection is still in place.

A Nepali trader Subas Timilsina complained that Nepali businesspersons bringing different goods from the north border of China have been facing problems due to this.
