BIRGUNJ, Nov 28: Robbers broke into Agricultural Development Bank near Bhanumarg in Birgunj and decamped with gold and silver ornaments worth Rs 4 million from the bank locker.

Around 72 tolas of gold and 27 tolas of silver along with other valuables were stolen from the locker on Sunday evening.

According to DSP Charkaraj Joshi, spokespeson of District Police Office, Parsa, the robbers might have barged into the bank through the southern window by removing the window grills.

The bank is on the second floor of the building. The thieves, however, left  the keys behind near the locker.

''The keys were placed in a steel cupboard at the manager’s chamber. The bank officials said that the robbers only took away the jewelleries after opening the locker,” Joshi told Republica Online.

The cash kept in other places were intact. The keys were kept in the place where they shouldn't have been kept.

“We have already started investigation into the case. Two security guards have taken under control,” said Joshi.

Police have taken the security guards of the bank Brija Kishor Chauhan and Umesh Yadav under control for investigation. Cleaner Maiya Deula informed bank’s branch manager Narayan Prasad Sharma after she saw an opened locker at 7:30am on Monday morning.

Sharma has been living on the top floor of the same building. Branch manager Sharma and security guard Yadav sleep at the bank. Sharma informed the police after coming to know about the incident. Police suspect that the employees of the bank could be involved in the robbery.
