BUTWAL, Feb 13: Purna Bahadur Gharti of CPN (Maoist Center) has registered his candidacy for the post of Speaker for Province 5.
Gharti reached the Province Assembly Secretariat at 10:30 am to register his name as a common candidate of the left alliance of CPN (UML) and CPN (Maoist Center) for the post. CPN (MC) Province 5 chief whip Dadhiram Neupane proposed his candidacy while UML chief whip Bhumishwor Dhakal backed it.
It may be noted that the meeting of the CPN (MC) parliamentary party held two days ago agreed on the name of Gharti who was elected in the State Assembly election from the East Rukum as a Speaker for Province 5 that comprises 12 districts with its temporary headquarters in Butwal.
The 78-member State Assembly in this province has a majority of the left alliance as 61 members are associated with the alliance. The third party Nepali Congress and other political parties have not yet made preparations to file candidacy for the post. It seems that Gharti's candidacy will be the only candidacy for the post and he will be elected unanimously.
NC lawmaker Bir Bahadur Rana said the party has not decided to send its candidate to vie for the post of a Speaker in Province 5. RSS
