KATHMANDU, June 6: Olympian Gaurika Singh, who represented departmental team Tribhuvan Army Club, won eight gold medals in the recently-concluded 22nd Open National Swimming Competition that was organized by Nepal Swimming Association from June 3 to 4.
Singh, who had arrived to Kathmandu from London for the tournament, took part in eight events winning gold medals in all of them.

She participated in the 50m, 100m, and 200m freestyle categories and also in the 100m butterfly, 50m and 100m backstroke and the 200m individual medley events.
She also won a feat of becoming the first Nepali female swimmer to complete the 100m freestyle event within a minute when she clocked the category in 59.91 seconds.
With the win, she is now liable to take part in the 18th Asian Games that will start on August 18 and conclude on September 2 this year.
After winning, Gaurika said: “I am really happy to be back in Nepal and swim in the national competition. I am training hard to represent Nepal in the Asian Games in Jakarta. I am also looking forward to making Nepal proud by winning lots of medals in the SAF Games being held here at home next year.”
