POKHARA, Oct 1: Gangster Samirman Singh Basnet, the mastermind of then Chairman of Federation of Constrictors’ Association of Nepal (FCAN) Sharad Kumar Gauchan's murder, has been transferred to Mustang prison from Nakhkhu prison.

Gauchan was shot dead on October 9, 2017 while Basnet was arrested on December 2 the same year.

He has been transferred to Mustang prison citing Basnet’s suspicious activities in the prison.

Basnet was taken to Pokhara in a flight of Buddha air at 10 am on Monday. Handcuffed, Basnet’s hand had been covered by a brown jacket.

He has been taken to Mustang via Pokhara-Beni-Korala road from Pokhara airport in a vehicle with Nepal Police on-board.

According to Chief District Officer of Kaski District, Kaski police will return only after handing him to Mustang police.

Meanwhile, Basnet’s family has been worried with his transfer. Basent’s wife Maya Sherchan reached Pokhara upon receiving information about her husband’s transfer all of a sudden. However, she did not divulge who informed her about it. She was worried how Mustang police could give security to him and why he was transferred to this far-flung place.

A total of eight prisoners – 2 murder-convicts, 1 attempted rapist-convict, 3 rapist-convicts, and 2 cow murder-convicts - are serving jail term in Mustang prison which cannot accommodate more than nine captives. A total of eight security personnel are giving security to them.
