POKHARA, June 17: A team of government officials including Gandaki Province’s Chief Minister Krishna Chandra Nepali Pokharel reached Manang, which was ravaged by rain-triggered floods, on Thursday, four days after the disaster wreaked havoc in the mountain district.

According to officials, a Nepal Army chopper, which was supposed to leave Pokhara for Manang on Wednesday, could not make it owing to the bad weather. So, the CM’s team visited Manang today.

DSP Shyamu Aryal told Republica that the CM-led team landed at Mangn with relief packages including medicines, food stuff and tents for temporary shelter. CM Pokharel was also accompanied by his Cabinet colleague, Rajib Gurung.

The provincial government had earlier decided to establish a Rs 50 million Disaster Fund in view of frequent incidents of natural disasters in the province.

As many as 35 people stuck in various places of Manang due to the floods and landslides were rescued by the Nepal Army helicopter.
