POKHARA, June 13: Newly-appointed chief minister of Gandaki Province, Krishna Chandra Nepali Pokharel is preparing to take a vote of confidence from the province assembly soon.
Pokharel, who was appointed as the chief minister of the province as per Article 168 (5) on Saturday, is required to obtain a vote of trust within 30 days of the date of his appointment as per Article 168 (6).
According to Gandaki Government Spokesperson Kumar Khadka, CM Pokharel, who is also the parliamentary party leader of the Nepali Congress (NC) in the province, will table the trust motion soon in the assembly.
Pokharel, who had earlier asked the former Chief Minister Prithvi Subba Gurung not to introduce the annual budget for fiscal year 2021/22 without winning a trust vote, is now under pressure to take a trust vote as the new government is preparing to introduce the budget within the deadline.
According to the Intergovernmental Fiscal Arrangement Act- 2017, the provincial government should present the annual budget in Mid June (1st of Nepali month of Ashadh. As the new government has only two days left before the deadline, winning the confidence motion and introducing the budget will be a tough job.
“CM Pokharel will hold necessary consultations with the former chief minister Gurung in this regard [introduction of budget] and take further steps,” said Khadka.
