KATHMANDU, Feb 13: Nepali Congress (NC) General Secretary Gagan Thapa has said that the government should be pressured to make a law so that public holidays cannot be granted arbitrarily.

Writing on social media on Monday, Thapa said that the government should be pressured to enact a law so that holidays cannot be granted arbitrarily.

He wrote, “Let's increase the pressure on the government to make a law to fix public holidays and prevent any level of government from announcing holidays arbitrarily, otherwise the parliamentarians themselves should take the lead in making a law. Nepali Congress will take the initiative for that.”

He said that if the law is not put in place, it is certain that arbitrariness will increase.

The government headed by Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal has been criticized for declaring the Maoist ‘people’s war day' as a public holiday.
