Fugitive rape convict arrested after 24 years

KATHMANDU, Nov 25: In yet another operation against long pending cases related to judgment execution, the Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) of Nepal Police on Thursday arrested a 41-year old man convicted of raping his own sister-in-law about 24 years ago.

The arrested has been identified as Reb Kumar Khati, originally from Kalyanpur VDC-1 of Nuwakot District. He was found hiding in disguise in Badikhel of Lalitpur District. 

DSP Kamal Thapa of the CIB informed that the convict than 19-years old had gone on the run after the District Court of Nuwakot convicted him of raping his sister-in-law on 18th April, 1994 and handed him a three years jail term. 

On 15th June, 1993, police investigation had revealed that the victim was raped by Khati and that her pregnancy was a result of it. Before the investigation, the victim had not told of the rape fearing that culprit who was a family member. 

Upon orders of the District Court Kathmandu, Khati was sent to the Central Jail Sundhara for serving the jail term on Friday. CIB has escalated investigations to bring long absconding culprits to the book from across the country.
