Friends' Club closes in on quarterfinals

KATHMANDU, June 2: Chyasal Youth Club (CYC) and Friends' Club bagged wins in the ongoing Lalit Memorial U-18 Football Championship on Friday.

In the matches played at ANFA Complex, Chyasal overcame the Armed Police Force (APF) 2-0 while Friends' registered a comfortable 4-1 win over the Far-west FC. 

Meanwhile Chyasal's win over APF has made quarterfinals race open in Group A. Victory against the departmental side means Chyasal now has accumulated four points from two matches while APF and Saraswati Youth Club (SYC) also have three points each from equal number of the matches. 

In the last group stage matches, Chyasal will take on SYC while APF will face Jhapa XI which has just one point. 

In the first match of the day, Susan Shrestha netted CYC's opener in the 19th minute. To put CYC in the driving seat Susan scored the goal utilizing a pass from Mingma Tenzing Sherpa from right flank. Sunny Byanjankar extended CYC's lead in the 52nd minute.

Fullback Pasang Chhiri Sherpa had made brilliant run on the left flank to cross the ball for Sunny in the penalty box and CYC's central forward made no mistake to slot the ball in the opponent net. 

After guiding his team to victory CYC's Thamman Bhushal said that his players perfectly executed the game plan. “My players played as per the plan but there is still a room for improvement. Scoring the goal in first half also lifted up the confident level of the players which was important,” said Coach Bhushal. He also said that his team has no pressure for next match against SYC. “SYC has three points and we have four so a draw will be enough for us. So I think pressure is on SYC, not on us,” concluded Bhushal. 
 
Friends' Club 4-1 Far-west FC
Dipesh Prasain scored a brace for Friends' while Rumesh Bartuala and Dhiraj Shrestha added one goal each. Likewise, Rajendra Deuba scored a consolation goal for Far-west.

Friends' scored its all the goals in the first half. Diesph scored Friends' opening goal in the 11th minute while Rumesh made 2-0 four minutes later. Dhiraj scored in the 33rd minute to make it 3-0 and Dipesh found his second goal in the 45th minute. Rajendra replied for Far-west in the 78th minute. 

Meanwhile in Group B, Friends' and Tribhuvan Army Club both have accumulated six points from two matches and will face each other in the last group match. Manang Marsyangdi Club and Far-west FC are yet to collect single point, which means both are out of the quarterfinal race. 

On Saturday, New Road Team (NRT) and Jawalakhel Youth Club (JYC) will compete in Group C match while Morang FC will face Nepal Police Club (NPC) in Group D clash.
