ILAM, July 8: At least three people have died in fresh violence in Darjeeling on Saturday. One person died on Friday night and two more died on Saturday as the protest continues in the hilly city demanding separate Gorkhaland state.
Tashi Bhotiya, a cadre of Gorkha Janamukti Morcha (GJM) was killed during the clsh between the activits of GJM and security personnel on Friday. To protest against the incident, locals came up with mass rally on Saturday.
Two more locals Suraj Sundas and Samir Gurung lost their lives during the scuffle with the Central Police Reserve Force (CRPF). Following the incidents, the locals have torched fire on the buildings of local administration and the party office of Trinamool Congress.
Since June 8, the city is experiencing violence demanding the separate state of Gorkhaland that has claimed at least six lives. The GJM has called for the general strike in the city since June 15 that has halted the activities of schools, markets, industries and tourism sector among others.
