“General convention of the sister organizations have not been held though the terms of office bearers have already expired. This has also led to groupism within the organizations. That is why I asked their chiefs to resign,” he said.
Koirala said he had not proposed dissolution of the party´s sister organizations as reported in the media. “I have asked office bearers whose terms have expired to resign. How can you call that a proposal for dissolution of the bodies?” he questioned. He said the party´s sister organizations have literally been non-functional for years due to internal problems.
Koirala said the three-member committee formed under the party´s General Secretary Prakash Man Singh will facilitate holding of free and fair general convention of the party´s sister organizations. Koirala said general convention preparation committee to be formed by Singh-led committee will include leaders acceptable to both the factions in the party.
While Nepal Women Association´s current body will expire in two months, the terms of NSU and Tarun Dal have already expired. “I have not asked office bearers of Nepal Women´s Association to resign as their terms are yet to expire,” Koirala said.
Koirala also refuted allegations from Sher Bahadur Deuba camp that he is trying to consolidate his hold in the party organizations by dissolving them. “I have taken decisions on the basis of the party´s statute. I have only talked about institutional system of decision making. I am not in favor of promoting groupism within the party,” he added.
Koirala also complained that media had tried to portray him as a “dictator” in the party without even trying to know the truth.
Stating that the promulgation of new constitution within the deadline was still, Koirala said, “We have already settled so many major differences. I hope we can settle the remaining differences too if the Maoists are ready to negotiate on reasonable terms,” he said.
Koirala said the Maoists must abide by agreements reached in the past and agree on the fundamental principles of multi-party democratic system. He also said the Maoists must be ready to conclude the peace process, including the management of its combatants, before the promulgation of the new constitution.
President Yadav´s concerns cannot be called interference: NC Prez Koirala
NC President Koirala has argued that concerns expressed by President Dr Ram Baran Yadav over stalled peace process and constitution drafting should not be construed as interference. Talking to media persons at his residence in Maharajgunj, President Koirala criticized UCPN (Maoist), Prime Minister Jhalanath Khanal and other political party leaders for raising unnecessary controversy over the consultations held by President Yadav. “The president did not host any secret meetings. He called a collective meeting to express concern over current political situation.
His concerns can not be termed as interference. I am not ready to buy such allegation,” he said. President last week had held meetings with the leaders of various political parties to urge them to expedite the peace process and constitution drafting so that they could be concluded within the stipulated deadline of May 28. “Is it so that the president in his capacity as the head of the state can not even express his concerns? How can it be called interference?” Koirala said.
