According to the Agriculture Knowledge Centre Banke's crops protection officer Sakil Ahamad, several varieties of vegetable crops such as potato, tomato, cauliflower, cabbage and chilly farming were damaged by winter rains.

The loss is estimated up to 75 per cent. Vegetable farming in the district covers 6,000 hectares of land in the district.

Potato and tomato crops have been affected largely as their farming scale is higher than of other crops. Crops cultivated in slope land suffered less damage.

Belaspur Karmohana Smart Agricultural Village acting chair Santa Kumar Barma demanded the government compensation to the farmers who suffered the loss due to rains. Commercial vegetable farming is done at all eight local levels in the district.

The Centre is presently collecting the loss details.
