Four suffocate to death in septic tank

BIRATNAGAR, June 30: Four people died on Saturday due to suffocation inside an under-construction septic tank of a mosque at Sunbarshi-9 in Morang district, said police.

The deceased have been identified as 25 years old Sahanwad Alam, 22 years old Mohammand Wasim Alam, 20 years old Mohammad Firoj Alam and 45 years old Mohammad Kapil Alam of Sunbarshi-9, who were working in the tank, said DSP Ghanashyam Shrestha, spokesperson of the district police office. They were rushed to local Rangeli Hospital for treatment after they lost consciousness upon entering the tank. The hospital referred them to Golden Hospital of Biratnagar.

They breathed their last on their way to Biratnagar, said police. 

Forty years old Daud Miya, who also lost his consciousness during the same incident, is undergoing treatment at Rangeli Hospital, said DSP Shrestha.  He said they reached the incident site immediately after getting the information and rescued them in coordination with the locals. 

Police officials at the District Police Office , Morang assume that they might have lost their lives due to lack of oxygen as they entered into the tank which had remained closed for many days. 

However, police said they cannot say anything further as they have just started the investigation into the incident.
