NEPALGUNJ, Dec 30: Four people mysteriously died in the staff quarters of Bheri Hospital in Nepalgunj. The deceased have been identified as Dhan Prasad Bhattarai, a worker in the hospital’s store department and his family members.

The deceased have been identified as Dhan Prasad Bhattarai, a store employee of the hospital, his sister Koli Bhattarai, 22, three-month-old son Ipson Bhattarai and mother-in-law Kopila Bhattarai, 55, according to Chief District Officer Surya Bahadur Khatri.

They slept in the same room. Police estimate that they might have died of suffocation as they lit fire to avoid cold. CDO Khatri said that he had reached the site and returned. "I also returned from the scene. There is a suspicion that the death may have been caused due to suffocation. The post-mortem report will tell the details," he said. There were seven people including Bhattarai in the quarters.

Four people were killed and three others were found unconscious. Although one of the three has regained consciousness, two others are still unconscious, said Khatri. Bhattarai's wife, another son and sister are undergoing treatment at Bheri Hospital.

Four people were found dead in the room around 6 AM on Thursday when other employees checked on them. The incident is being investigated by the District Police Office, Banke. Banke Police chief SP Shyam Krishna Adhikari informed Republica that a meticulous investigation has been started into the incident.
