DHANGADI, May 12: At least four members of a family were injured when a group of Nepali Congress(NC) cadres attacked Jaggu Ram Chaudhary, a CPN-UML Ward Chairman candidate for Godavari Municipality-6 on Wednesday night, with Khukuri.


According to the injured persons, a group of 15 to 20 youths belonging to NC attacked them with khukuri while they were sitting in the courtyard after having dinner at 11:30 PM. Binti Ram Chaudhary, the brother of the ward chairperson candidate, was seriously injured in the attack.


Chaudhary is currently undergoing treatment at a hospital in Attariya. His wife Basanti Chaudhary was also injured in the attack. 


Laxmi Chaudhary, and Rabin Chaudhary, daughter and nephew of the Ward Chairman candidate, respectively, are among those injured in the attack. Their health condition is said to be out of danger.

According to injured Laxmi, a group of NC youths led by Prakash Oli attacked them with a khukuri. She claimed that the NC Ward Chairman candidate was also with the attackers. 


Laxmi said that Binti Ram, who was critically injured in the attack, was initially hit with a stick. He fell down on the ground while trying to grab the stick and was indiscriminately attacked with khukuri. He has sustained serious injuries on his left hand. 


Ward Chairperson candidate Jaggu Ram said that he saved his life by hiding in the dark inside the house. He complained that police arrived at his home only after an hour after they were informed about the attack. 


Jaggu Ram said he is preparing to lodge a complaint against the person who attacked them with Khukuri. 


Leaders including CPN-UML central secretary Lekh Raj Bhatta and politburo member Narad Muni Rana visited the injured at their homes and hospitals. Secretary Bhatta blamed that the attack was planned and that the police intentionally arrived an hour late after the attack.


According to Deputy Superintendent of Police at the Area Police Office, Malakheti Rabindra Raj Pandey, four to five people were injured in the clash. He said that a search is on to nab the accused involved in the attack.


NC Ward Chairperson candidate Jayaraj Fulara said that he had informed the police after receiving information that there was a party going on and later a fight ensued after NC cadres reached the party venue. He also claimed that he was also injured in the clash.
