KATHMANDU, Dec 16: The Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) has appointed Sandeep Lamichhane as the new captain of the national cricket team. Wednesday's board meeting of CAN appointed Sandeep in place of regular captain Gyanendra Malla.
The replacement comes as the CAN has taken action against Nepali national team captain Gyanendra Malla, vice-captain Dipendra Singh Airy, Sompal Kami and Kamal Singh Airy for alleged violation of the players' code of conduct. The action was taken as recommended by the CAN's disciplinary committee. Accordingly, the four cricketers will also not be included in the Central Contract for the first six months of 2022.

Gyanendra was appointed captain of the Nepali cricket team in 2019.
Some senior players including Gyanendra Malla had complained about the classification of players made by the CAN, arguing that it was not scientific and practical. CAN even sought an explanation from the players on the same, but decided to take action saying that the player's explanation was not satisfactory.
