KATHMANDU, April 25: Although the Constitution has made it mandatory for the sub-national governments to introduce their annual budget by June 24 (Asadh 10) every year along with their financial plan to the government within the prescribed time, a number of local bodies are found defying the state’s law.

According to the Ministry of Federal Affairs and General Administration, four out of 753 local bodies are yet to submit their annual budget of 2021/22. All of these local bodies are from Madhesh Province.

While the stipulated time for announcement of next year’s budget is drawing close, these local bodies are yet to submit their financial plan of the current fiscal year in the state mechanism. These include Baudimai Municipality and Garuda Municipality of Rautahat district, Pokhariya Municipality of Parsa district and Janakpur Sub-metropolitan City of Dhanusha district.
