Mother, three sons die of suffocation

SURKHET, Jan 16: Four people have been found dead who slept burning coal at night in Budbudi of Birendranagar-10. According to police, three children, a mother, were killed after they slept with coal fire at around 9:30 PM on Friday. Police received information about the incident only at 7:30 pm on Saturday.

Chief of the District Police Office, Superintendent of Police Pad Bahadur Bista said that four persons including a mother were found dead while the coal fire was lit under the bed of their house. The deceased have been identified as 35-year-old Kalpa Budha (BC), 9-year-old son Niraj Budha, 8-year-old son Chiranjivi Budha and 5-year-old Somraj Budha. Kalpa's husband Krishna Bahadur BC is working in Shivalaya Rural Municipality of Jajarkot. The deceased Somraj is Krishna's nephew.

Kalpana's father-in-law was also at home. He had gone to the old age home on Saturday morning. When he returned at around 6 PM, he went to the room where his daughter-in-law and grandchildren were sleeping. He had informed the police when there was no sound from inside the door. Police had reached the spot around 7:30 PM. Police had opened the door of the house in the presence of people's representatives and locals. "Coal was seen burning under the bed. The faces of the four deceased were covered with foam," said Kanak Shahi, a police inspector who reached the spot. “As the husband is out of the district, we did not take the bodies.”
