KATHMANDU, Jan 7: Police have arrested four persons including two Chinese nationals on the charge of kidnapping and holding hostage two other Chinese citizens from Kathmandu.

Two Chinese nationals named Liu Weiping and Li Xiaoning were kidnapped from Kathmandu Metropolitan City-9 by four persons – two Nepali and two Chinese nationals – at around 9:00AM Sunday.

The arrested Chinese have been identified as Wu Chao, 32, with passport number EB 7894285, and another Chinese national with passport number EB 9409636. Likewise, the arrested Nepali nationals have been identified as Dawa Pasang Lama, 32, and Bhakta Lama, 32, of Bhotekoshi Rural Municipality-5.

“Both the Chinese nationals were kidnapped from Ananda Hotel at Gaushala. They [the kidnapped Chinese] were abducted, and were taken to Marming in Sindhupalchowk district. They were held hostage and physically tortured,” said police.

In recent times, there has been a rise in criminal activities by Chinese nationals in Nepal.  Last year, police arrested 122 Chinese nationals for their involvement in 'suspicious' activities in Nepal.

Likewise in May, a group of Chinese nationals clashed with police outside Singha Durbar.
