BABIYACHAUR, (Myagdi), Jan 1: The encroachments on public land properties at Kunhun and Babiyachaur VDCs of Myagdi were removed with public participation, which has set a new precedent.

Around 400 hectares of land in the two villages had been encroached. It has now been removed since, and the public land brought under the community forest's authority.

The District Forest Office on Saturday held a ceremony at the Kunhun village to make an announcement that encroachments in the two VDCs have been removed. The announcement was made in the presence of former State Minister and lawmaker, Nardevi Pun, Assistant Chief District Officer, Yadavnath Acharya, District Forest Officer, Sukhlal Prasad Jaiswal and Soil Conservation Official, Diwakar Poudel among others.

The Community Forest Consumer Group's representatives have vowed to not allow encroachment from taking place again, and plant tree saplings in the areas freed from intrusion.

Assistant Forest Official, Chandramani Sapkota confirmed that the forest areas used by individuals were taken back. The encroachment on 277 hectares of land in Kunhun and 133 hectares of land in Babiyachaur were cleared.

This is the first incident where forest consumers were used to remove the encroachment against the regular practice of mobilizing police force. RSS
