Foreseeing future of earth

Foreseeing future of earth

As a child, I was always afraid of monsters. I watched many cartoons and TV series as a child. I imagined monsters to be similar to scary creatures with horns, sharp long teeth, and a cruel behavior. I believed humans were good creatures who saved the world from the dark shadows of such monsters.

My image of the monsters somewhat matched with some of the wild animals like tigers, elephants, and rhinoceros; the tables turned as I grew up.

I began to realize that humans were only good for their own race. I live in Kathmandu, one of the most polluted cities in the world. The thought of the mess we created of this beautiful place always haunts me.

Not only Kathmandu, but we are also turning the entire world into a huge pile of garbage. I now feel we cannot feel good in anything natural. The human goal of living a cozy life has brought a huge trouble. We are fools who cut trees to build roads, kill other animals to feed one’s hunger, contaminate the water that is regarded as the source of existence. Our selfishness has created troubled not only ourselves but each and every organism that has an equal right to this blue planet.

Ozone layer depletion, global warming, climate change, ocean acidification, resource depletion and what not. We are killing the only planet known to possess.

I don’t understand how we can be happy by killing other organisms and calling ourselves intelligent. Is that what intelligence really means? No! That’s selfishness. The more comfort we seek, the more we trouble ourselves. We are aiming to settle in Mars. Elon Musk is a smart man. He has already envisioned the future of this planet and he knows life here is going to be difficult. But I consider him a fool. Instead of preserving our earth -- the planet to which 7 billion people call home -- he is envisioning future in Mars. When his own planet is in trouble, he wants to invest in the future. He is throwing food when there are hungry mouths to feed. Similar is the condition of developing countries, instead of helping the planet and its people who are frantically crying every second that passes by, they are busy investing billions of dollars in nuclear weapons and sophisticated defenses.

We want everything but we lose everything because what we do isn’t called humanity it’s called insanity. So, wake up animals and become humans.
