CHITWAN, Feb 24: A foreign national has died in an attack by a wild elephant in Chitwan, today (Friday). The incident occurred at 12:30 PM.


An Israeli citizen was killed in the attack by a wild elephant named Govinde in Sauraha, about 600 meters away from the Chitwan National Park’s headquarters. The police said that the deceased had an Israeli driving license with him.

According to the District Police Office Chitwan, they recovered the license of the victim which mentions his name as Samuel Boekner. It has been learnt that the foreigner entered the park alone without taking a ticket. The park said that further investigation is underway.


In six months of the current fiscal year, eight people have died due to wild animal attacks in Chitwan National Park. Among them, only two people died due to elephant attacks. A 64-year-old woman was killed in an elephant attack in the national park only a few days ago while a 70-year-old woman died in Bharatpur metropolis last month due to elephant attack.
