KATHMANDU, Oct 1: The number of foreign tourists arriving in Nepal increased by 12.1 percent year-on-year in September 2026, according to the Nepal Tourism Board.
A total of 88,248 foreign tourists visited Nepal in September, compared with 78,711 in the same month last year.
Tourists from South Asia accounted for the largest share of arrivals, with 30,085 visitors from the region, or around 34.9 percent of the total.

India led South Asian arrivals with 17,425 visitors, followed by Sri Lanka with 7,108, Bangladesh with 3,964, Bhutan with 1,111 and Pakistan with 429.
Nepal received 11,212 tourists from China in September, an increase of more than 58 percent compared with the same month last year.
Tourist arrivals from Europe, however, declined by 8.7 percent year-on-year to 15,148. The arrivals included 3,725 visitors from the UK, 1,974 from Germany, 1,389 from France, 1,120 from Spain and 910 from Italy.
A total of 5,422 tourists arrived from Oceania, including 4,842 from Australia and 580 from New Zealand. Arrivals from the region fell 25.9 percent compared with September last year.
Arrivals from the United States also declined, with 10,107 American tourists visiting Nepal in September compared with 11,523 in the same month last year.
Tourist arrivals from the Middle East increased 11.9 percent to 2,606, while 424 tourists arrived from African countries, a 23.3 percent increase year-on-year.
