KATHMANDU, Nov 6: Chandra Prasad Dhakal, president of the Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI) and Honorary Consul of the Republic of Indonesia to Nepal, has been awarded the prestigious 'Caraka Buwana Award' by the government of Indonesia.
The Caraka Buwana Award is a distinguished recognition presented by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Indonesia, acknowledging individuals who have made significant contributions to strengthening bilateral relations with Indonesia.
This award honors Dhakal's outstanding efforts to enhance Nepal-Indonesia relations, focusing on tourism, cultural exchange, and economic cooperation.
The award was presented by Heru H Subolo, Ambassador of Indonesia to Nepal, during a special ceremony in Kathmandu on Tuesday.
Chandra Dhakal elected Senior Vice President of FNCCI
Ambassador Subolo praised President Dhakal's commitment, stating, “President Dhakal’s steadfast dedication has significantly strengthened the bond between our nations, fostering a spirit of collaboration that benefits both countries.”
In his acceptance speech, Dhakal expressed gratitude to the Indonesian government, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Nepal, and the esteemed guests in attendance. He emphasized that the award serves as an inspiration to continue working towards mutual growth and prosperity between Nepal and Indonesia.
He highlighted the importance of two recent landmark agreements—the Bilateral Consultation Mechanism and the Visa Exemption Agreement for holders of diplomatic and official passports. These agreements, signed during the 79th session of the UN General Assembly, are vital for reinforcing the partnership between the two nations.
"I am especially encouraged by these agreements," Dhakal said. “They will strengthen diplomatic ties, facilitate official travel, and pave the way for enhanced economic cooperation, tourism, and regional collaboration.”
Dhakal also acknowledged the growing interest of Nepalese tourists in Indonesia, particularly Bali, which has become a favored destination. "The rise in Nepalese tourists visiting Bali reflects Indonesia’s natural beauty and vibrant culture," he remarked. He further suggested considering an on-arrival visa facility for Nepalese tourists to enhance cultural ties and tourism.
This award marks a significant milestone in the ongoing collaboration and friendship between Nepal and Indonesia, setting the stage for a promising future.
Dhakal was also recognized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Indonesia for his contributions to rescue and relief efforts during the 2015 earthquake.
Having served as Honorary Consul of Indonesia since 2010, Dhakal continues to play a crucial role in strengthening bilateral relations.
The event was attended by ambassadors from various countries, high-level officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Nepal, and other dignitaries.
