RAJBIRAJ, Sept 3: The daily life of the 600 households affected by flood water from the Saptakoshi river in Hanumannagar Kankalini municipality is worsening day by day.

Houses in the municipality as well as in Tilathi Koillathi rural municipality have been inundated by flood water since the past five days. As a result, the residents in the area have been forced to take shelter in the road, according to the one of the survivors Ram Kumar Sada.

The locals have also lost all food stock to the floods and are now forced to live on bitten rice and puffed rice, the survivors said. The flood water from Saptakoshi river entered into the human settlement after neighboring India changed the course of the river by using pilot channel.

In ward no.6 of Hanumannagar Kankalini municipality, 540 households have been affected with 200 of them living in temporary shelters on the western dam of the Koshi river. We have been forced to move to higher ground after our houses were inundated by the flood water, local resident Chandan Yadav said.

Furthermore, 40 houses have been waterlogged in ward no. 4 and 5 of Tilathi Koilathi rural municipality. Drinking water has been a problem along with sanitation for the flood survivors, the rural municipality Chair Satish Singh said.

According to local senior citizens, it is after a span of twenty years that flood water from the Saptakoshi river has inundated human settlement in the two municipalities. RSS
