RAUTAHAT, Sept 12: Flood caused by the incessant downpour since last three days has blocked the East-West Highway in Rautahat.

The section of the highway located near Chandi River in Chandrapur Municipality was blocked by the swollen river.

Hundreds of vehicles have been stranded near Bagmati River and Chandranigahapur and also in Birgunj and Hetauda following the obstruction of the highway.

DSP Nabin Krishna Bhandari at District Police Office, Rautahat said, “Some 1,000 vehicles are stranded due to the obstruction of the highway. We have stopped the vehicles near Bagmati River in the east and in Chandinagar in the west.”

Meanwhile, the flood in the river submerged a private car, Ba 1 Ja 8493, of CPN (Maoist Center) lawmaker Prabhu Sha.

Leader Sha was travelling to Mirchaiya, Siraha to attend a function to be addressed by Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal.

The car broke down after the water entered inside its engine. However, cadres managed to push the car to a safer location.

“The car got submerged in the river. We somehow managed to prevent it from being swept away. The vehicle is being to Chandranigahapur for repair,” said Sha.
