Five die after eating goat carcass

JUMLA, Dec 6: Five persons have died and four critically ill after eating rotten meat in Seroge of Pulu VDC Sunday, according to acting chief of the District Public Health Office (DPHO) Prem Bahadur Shahi.



Tenzing Sonam Lama, 31, of ward No 5, Repad Lama, 27, of ward No 4, and Chhewang Lama, 26, Laicap Tsering Lama, 28, and Tsering Paljor Lama, 31, of ward No 6 died while four others are in critical condition after eating goat carcass. [break]



The DPHO said that the villagers had consumed the carcass Sunday morning and died the same day but the news reached the district headquarters only Monday due to lack of communication facilities in the village, which lies 14 km away and it takes one and a half days´ trek to reach from the district headquarters.



Acting chief Shahi said a four-member team led by Assistant Health Worker (AHW) Dharma Dutta Buda has been sent to the village along with medicines immediately after receiving the news of the deaths.



The health center nearest from the village is a local sub health post and it takes three hours´ trek to reach there.
