SARLAHI, Jan 16: Farmers of Sarlahi have suffered a huge loss as fish are dying in the pond due to severe cold.

Afjal Hussain, a farmer of Haripur Municipality, complained that about 15 tons of fish died in his pond due to cold temperature. “We had tried to fill warmer groundwater into the pond. But we could not save the fish,” said Hussain.

Yugal Kishor Tiwari, senior agriculture development officer with District Agriculture Development Office, Sarlahi, told Republica that Pangasius fish cannot survive in cold temperature.

Hussain, who received President's Excellent Farmer Award, in September, has done fish farming in 18 ponds.
