ILAM, Sept 3: Property worth Rs. 20 million was gutted in fire at Deu Mai municipality-1.  According to the District Police Office, the fire, which started at 9 PM yesterday engulfed Thalu Man Shrestha's house and destroyed a collective amount of Rs. 20 million.  

Apart from Shrestha's  damage of around Rs. 10.5 million, the fire also engulfed the shoes shop of Jit Bahadur Bista and caused loss of around Rs. 5 million, the District Police Office said.

The fire was caused due to electrical short-circuit. Nepal Army, Armed Police Force, police and locals worked two hours to douse the fire. A fire brigade from Fidim, 33 kilometers away from the incident site,  had also come to contain the fire. However, the fire brigade came to a halt half way after mechanical problems.

A local, Prakash Basnet said the fire grew after gas cylinders burst.
