KHOTANG, May 30: Fire has destroyed a school building at Rupakot Majhuwagadhi Municipality-12 in the district on Monday night.

The fire which broke out at Jyoti Secondary School at 11 pm destroyed nine rooms including a two-room building, administration room, library, account section, classs rooms, among others.

Similarly, class Nursery, KG, Class 1, 2, 3, and 4 which were being run under the zinc-roofed school building were gutted in the fire.

The school building was set on fire apparently after being doused in kerosene.

“All the nine rooms were destroyed in the fire,” said chairman of School Management Committee Pratiman Rai told Republica Online. “It is suspected that some thugs harboring ill-intention may have set fire to the school building.”

Jyoti Secondary, only private school in the district, has been teaching students in English medium for the last nine years.

According to DSP Nabin Kishor Pradhan of District Police Office, Khotang, the fire has destroyed proterty worth over Rs 5 million.
