KATHMANDU, Oct 15:  Newly-appointed Minister for Finance, Bishnu Prasad Paudel, has assumed office. After taking the oath of office and secrecy at the President’s Office in Shital Niwas, Finance Minister Paudel reached the Ministry of Finance to assume office.

His first decision after taking office was to accept a loan of US$ 200 million from the World Bank to combat COVID-19, said a finance ministry official.

The Ministry of Finance, however, restricted the entry of journalists when the new Finance Minister Paudel assumed office.

Earlier on Wednesday, Prime Minister KP Sharma appointed Paudel, who is also the general secretary of the Nepal Communist Party, to the post of Finance Minister that had fallen vacant after Yuba Raj Khatiwada resigned as Finance Minister on September 4. This is the second time Paudel has become the finance minister. Earlier in November 2015, he had become the finance minister for nine-months.
