KATHMANDU, May 20: Fifteen Nepali nationals who were trafficked to war-torn Libya were rescued on Sunday, the Nepali Embassy in Egypt said.

The IOM is providing shelter to those rescued Nepali nationals, the embassy said.

Those rescued are namely Purna Bahadur Gurung, Ganesh Thapa Magar, Amrit Gurung, Bhuwan Acharya, Sanam Bishwakarma, Buddhi Bahadur Adhikari Chhetri, Krishna Koirala, Raju Bishwakarma, Gupta Bahadur BK, Raju Bista, Shekhar Kharel, Jayaram Dhami, Ajay Kumar Chaudhary, Prakash Bishwakarma and, Manohar Karki. The Nepali nationals were trafficked to Libya offering good jobs.

Second Secretary at the Nepali Embassy in Cairo, Sujan Bidari, said that the IOM will arrange flight tickets to return home.

To facilitate the repatriation of those Nepali nationals, the embassy is preparing the travel documents since their passports have been confiscated by their company owners in Tripoli.

Nepal troops working at United Nations Peacekeeping Mission in Tripoli also coordinated with the Nepali Embassy and IoM to rescue those Nepali nationals, according to the embassy. “We are working to repatriate those Nepali nationals as early as possible,” Bidari said.
