KATHMANDU, Feb 2: KATHMANDU, Feb 2: President Bidya Devi Bhandari on the occasion of Sonam Lhosar has extended her best wishes for happiness, peace and prosperity to all living at home and abroad.

Sonam Lhosar marks the beginning of a new year for the Tamang community. Hyolmo, Thakali, Jirel, Nesyangwa, Bhote, Dura, Lepcha and other castes including Tamang living in different parts of the country celebrate this festival according to their own style and tradition. “Such festivals are also helping to enhance our original identity by preserving and promoting our original cultural heritage,” she said in the message. 

“In a multi-ethnic, multi-lingual, multi-culturally diverse Nepali society, I believe that festivals like Sonam Lhosar will enhance the spirit of mutual harmony, tolerance and brotherhood among all Nepalis and help in further strengthening the greater national unity,” President Bhandari added.
