Female Int’l Taekwondo in April

KATHMANDU, March 6: Women’s Empowerment Committee (WEC) of Nepal Taekwondo Association (NTA) is set to organize the First Female International Taekwondo on April 5 to 6 in Kathmandu.

Organizing a press meet in the capital on Sunday, WEC informed that the two-day event will be the first international level taekwondo tournament for women that Nepal will be organizing.  Tournament coordinator Nanda Bashyal informed that the competition will see participation of players from six countries including host Nepal, India, Bhutan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and Pakistan.

Altogether 196 players including 96 from Nepal will vie for 13 gold medals in poomsae events. According to Bashyal, players from five development regions and departmental teams -Tribhuvan Army Club, Nepal Police Club, Armed Police Force (APF)-will represent Nepal in the tournament. However, gold medalists of the Seventh National Games won’t be taking part in the competition. The tournament to be officiated by 20 women judges is expected to cost Rs 4.5 million.
