Russia-ordered ‘pause’ goes into effect east of Damascus

A Russia-ordered “humanitarian pause” has gone into effect to allow civilians to leave a rebel-held enclave near Damascus, giving a brief respite to the residents of the besieged area that has been under intense attack by the Syrian government for weeks.

Govt to take stringent measures to curb pollution

The Minister for Population and Environment, Lalbabu Pandit, stated that the government would take elaborative measures to control the country’s pollution. Measures include banning companies that produce non-biodegradable plastic wastes and canned food, effective implementation of green stickers in vehicles to curb air pollution and eco-friendly brick kilns.  

UML, Maoist Center to complete first draft of political document by March 6

The ruling Left Alliance - CPN-UML and CPN (Maoist Center) have said that they will complete the first draft of joint interim statue by March 6. 

88 new leprosy patients diagnosed in Nawalparasi

Eight-eight new leprosy patients have been found in two districts; Nawalparasi East and West. While Nepal was declared as leprosy-free country in 2010, new cases are being reported every year. Nepal is one of the leprosy burden countries and leprosy is rife in the southern plains of the country. Districts include Nawalparasi, Kapilvastu, Rupandehi, Banke, Bardiya and Kailali.

Accidents kill 35 pedestrians in 6 months

In just six months of the current fiscal year, road accidents have claimed 105 lives, 35 of which are pedestrians. Accidents in two wheelers have claimed 59 lives alone.

Nepal committed to protect human rights

Nepal has expressed its commitment to protect and promote human rights in the 37th session of Human Rights Council in Geneva. Representatives from Nepal also said that the country prioritized to democratic polity, pluralism, rule of law, accountability, social and economic justice.
