Around 12,000 trees to be chopped to build infrastructure in Kailali

Amid haphazard development and human encroachment, forest area in Kailali district is depleting at an alarming rate. During the construction of  Rani-Jamara-Kulariya Irrigation Project, 13,348 trees were cut down.   Likewise, around 12,000 more trees need to be chopped to construct the Postal Highway, Seti Lokmarga and the Khutiya Dipayal Fast Track. Around 30,000 hectares of forest area is currently encroached in the district. 

Nepali Congress accepts NSU President's resignation

The resignation of Nepal Students' Union President Nainsingh Mahar was approved by the central working committee of the Nepali Congress. Mahar had tabled his resignation earlier today stating that it would be unwise for him to stay in the position as the members of the Nepali Congress's Central Committee remained divided on whether to give continuity to the existing leadership of NSU.  

Govt plans to create 700,000 jobs in the next five years

Through the ‘Prime Minister Employment Program’, the government is planning to create 700,000 jobs in the country in the next five years. The move comes to prevent youths from leaving the country. Under the scheme, unemployed youths will also be provided subsistence as well as unemployment allowances.  

Juphal Aiport in Dolpa comes into operation after five days

Juphal Airport in Dolpa district has resumed its operation since Monday morning. The airport had come to a halt for the past five days due to heavy snowfall. The snow from the runway was removed by deploying around 100 construction workers.

Thai junta chief decries coup conjecture as 'fake news'

Thailand's junta chief dismissed rumors of an impending coup as "fake news", as speculation ricocheted across a kingdom unsettled by the ill-fated political union between a princess and a party allied to the powerful Shinawatra clan. Conjecture has coursed through Thailand since Friday when the Thai Raksa Chart party proposed Princess Ubolratana, King Maha Vajiralongkorn's elder sister, as a candidate for premier after the March 24 election. Hours later, a royal command from the king appeared to put a pin in her unprecedented political aspirations. It said the monarchy was above politics and described his sister's candidacy as "highly inappropriate".

Bahrain reaffirms right to pursue legal action against refugee footballer

Bahrain said it has taken note of a “halt of legal proceedings” against refugee footballer Hakeem al-Araibi, who was released from a Thai jail on Monday after Bahraini authorities abandoned their bid to seek his extradition. Bahrain’s Foreign Ministry said in a statement that a 10-year jail sentence imposed on Araibi in absentia by a Bahraini court remained in place and reaffirmed its right to “pursue all necessary legal actions against him”.
