SURKHET, June 6: A feasibility study of an international airport in Surkhet in Karnali Province has been carried out. The project that is located at Naulichaur of Bheriganga Rural Municipality in Surkhet covering 36,000 ropanis of land costs approximately Rs 7.41 billion, said Suraj Koirala, a consultant company engineer Suraj Koirala.
Detailed project report would be prepared as per the feasibility report, he said.
On Tuesday, Minister for Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation Rabindra Adhikari alongside ministers of the provincial government took a field tour of the project area.
Speaking at an event, Minister Adhikari said the government prioritises the project. "A foundation stone will be laid soon after preparing its DPR."
The project aims to materialise the drive to have districts outside the Kathmandu valley to have direct air-connectivity with foreign countries, he said.
"Airway is a means for a unity among the people of Humla and Dolpa of the province. Towards that end, all airlines in Kathmandu have been asked to set up stations in respective airport," he said.
