FDRA urges govt to bring full budget within third week of November

KATHMANDU, Nov 5: A meeting of the Federal Democratic Republican Alliance (FDRA), the alliance of the ruling coalition parties, urged the government to bring a full-fledged budget within third week of November.



The meeting also directed the government to make a complete preparation to bring the full-fledged budget, saying the country will be plunged into economic crisis if a complete budget is not brought.[break]



The meeting held at the official residence of the Prime Minister at Baluwatar, on Monday morning, urged the chairman of the FDRA, Pushpa Kamal Dahal, to continue ongoing discussions with opposition parties to give a political outlet and about the budget.



After the meeting, Spokesperson of the FDRA, Prem Bahadur Singh, the meeting urged the government to bring the complete budget within third week of November not to push the country into economic crisis.



During the meeting, discussion was held to present the full-fledged budget to the President before Tihar if consensus was not forged with opposition parties on budget.



At the beginning of the meeting, Dahal informed about the discussions held with political parties including the Nepali Congress and CPN-UML for political consensus.



Dahal familiarized the meeting that the opposition has a stance on going for elections rather than reinstating the Constituent Assembly (CA) and suggested that the government should be converted into a national consensus government if elections are to be held.



Spokesperson Singh said Dahal put an alternative of promulgating the new constitution by incorporating the agreed issues for political outlet.



On the occasion, Minister for Finance, Barshaman Pun informed the meeting about the progress made on preparation of budget and talks held with opposition parties on budget.



The Finance Minister had already held meeting with Chairman of the UCPN-Maoist, Pushpa Kamal Dahal, and Chairman of the CPN-UML, Jhalanath Khanal, for political consensus. The coverage period of the one-third budget is completing on November 15.



Similarly, Prime Minister Dr. Baburam Bhattarai discussed about the ongoing initiatives with opposition parties for political consensus and budget.



After the meeting, Chairman of the Tarai Madhes Democratic Party, Mahantha Thakur, told media persons that discussion on bringing budget on time not to push the country into economic crisis was held.
