UDAYAPUR, June 10: It has been revealed that a piece of land belonging to the Gaighat-Kadmaha Sagarmatha Highway has been sold due to the negligence of the District Land Revenue Office (DLRO). District Police said that Shiva Prasad Dahal, 87, and his son Buddhi Prasad were arrested on Saturday for selling 7 kattha 19 dhur of land belonging to the Gaighat-Bagaha section of the road in Triyuga Municpality.

According to the District Police, Dahal sold the land to Nepal Dangol of Kapan, Kathmandu, on May 30 for Rs 12.72 million. Superintendent of Police (SP) Navaraj Bhatta said that further action against the father-son duo will only be taken on Sunday since Saturday is a public holiday. According to Bhatta, the duo has given a statement that they sold the land since the Land Revenue Office had not registered the land in the name of the road yet, rendering it as Dahal's property. He added that an investigation into the 'forged' land deal was underway. In the preliminary phase of the investigation, police have received documents relating to the acquisition of the land by Purbanchal Road Division Number 5. But, since the DLRO had not registered the land as the division's, Dahal found out that the land was still his officially, and sold it.According to SP Bhatta, the preliminary phase of investigation suggests that the land could have been sold to be used as a collateral for banking purpose. “It seems that the land was sold for banking purpose,” he said, “But the actual reason can only be found after the investigation is complete. Since today is a public holiday, we can only start the investigation tomorrow.”
