JANAKPURDHAM, June 24: The husband and father-in-law of a woman have been arrested for killing her in Sahid Municipality of Dhanusha. They were arrested on Thursday from Inarwa in Janak Nandini Rural Municipality-1 of the district.

According to the police, the arrested are Ram Chandra Mandal (husband) and Sahadev Mandal (father-in-law) of Nathpatti, Sahid Nagar Municipality-8.

Gauri Devi Mandal, 35, was killed while she was sleeping in her house in Sahidnagar Municipality-8 on November 16, 2021. The mother of the deceased Tetari Devi Mandal of Siraha Golbazar Municipality-5 had lodged a complaint at the Area Police Office, Yadukuha, alleging that her daughter was strangled to death while she was sleeping in her own house.

The father and son had fled after the incident and were hiding in Tenuwahi village of Ladania police station (Panchayat) of India. Dhanusha Police Spokesperson Pradip Bahadur Chhetri said that a joint team of Area Police Office, Yadukuha and District Police Office arrested Sahadev Mandal and Ram Chandra Mandal on Thursday on the basis of secret information that they were coming to Nepal from India.

According to the police, the Dhanusha District Court has remanded them in custody for five days for investigation into the case.
