TAPLEJUNG, Jan 2: A helicopter that had gone to rescue a father and son, who are trapped in snow in a remote village in the district, failed to rescue them. The helicopter of Altitude Air returned empty-handed after reaching Papung village despite trying twice to rescue Lakpatansi Sherpa, 50, and his 15-year-old son Pasang Chhiring Sherpa. The father and son were trapped in the snow while moving their cowshed on Friday.
According to Dandu Lama, Ward Chairman of Mikwakhola Rural Municipality, Ward 5, the rescue was not possible due to the bad weather and the helicopter is kept at the Suketar airport so that they can try again on Sunday.
Lakpatansi had called Lama on Saturday morning, requesting for a helicopter to rescue them as they were unable to return home clearing the snow.
