Fashion forward people dominate the social media sphere today. Models, fashion bloggers and fashion enthusiasts have turned into trendsetters in the society that everyone seems to get behind. Republica’s Sanghamitra Subba spoke with Sanna Gurung, 24 and Khusbu Gauchan, 25, two well-known names in the fashion blogosphere asking them about the trends of the Nepali fashion scene and how they started their personal journey in fashion.

Fashion icons and inspirations
Ever since I started using the internet, I’ve been fascinated by the online fashion world and I started looking for fashion blogs that I liked. This along with my fashion inspirations like Camill Co, Laureen Uy, Kryz Uy, Chriselle Lim, Song Sisters and Jessica Ricks inspired me to get into fashion blogging.

Nepal’s current fashion trends and your favorites
The ongoing fashion trends include stripes, thread embroideries, waist clinchers, satin, robes, cold shoulder tops, sneakers et cetera. These are the trends that are the staple of 2017, so they are here to stay.

Favorite Nepali fashion designers and stores to check in Nepal
My favorite Nepali fashion designer would be Tenzin Tseten Bhutia and the stores everyone should check out are Lane88, Grandeur, DS Collection and PJ’Z Collection.
Three clothing items everybody should have and why
Three clothing items everyone should have in their closets are a pair of black stretchable pants, white button down top and the little black dress. These are essentials that everyone needs to have because you can style them in many different ways. 

Getting into fashion blogging and your blogging style 
As I said in my first question, I used to follow fashion blogs religiously and I wanted to create my own. My blog and Instagram (@khusbhugauchan) is more about showing my personal style through pictures of my outfits.

Any advice for up and coming fashion bloggers
I would advise up and coming fashion bloggers to post regularly, to interact with their followers and to be passionate about their work. 

Meaning and difference between fashion and style 
Fashion is something that is ongoing, something that the mass has accepted and has loved. These are tends wanted and worn by many people at a certain period in time. Fashion and trends are somewhat similar but style is something that is very personal. It has more to do with how you like to wear an ongoing trend to make it you.

Fashion icons and inspirations
My biggest fashion inspiration is Jenn Im. My other fashion inspirations include my mother and my aunt, who have been fashion inspirations for me from an early age. They used to dress me when I was younger and I think, their fashion sense rubbed off on me. 

Nepal’s current fashion trends and your favorites
I don’t really follow up with the current trends but my favorite trends include fish net stockings, choker necklaces and anything denim right now. Vintage shoes definitely need to make a comeback in the Nepali fashion scene. Especially, neutral toed shoes with block heels that were all the rage in the 80’s and 90’s and long floral dresses should also be a popular trend this summer.

Favorite Nepali fashion designer and stores to check-out in Nepal
While I cannot choose my favorite Nepali fashion designer, my favorite jewelry designer at the moment is Arpana Rayamajhi. I loved the jewelry she designed for the 2016 Victoria Secret Fashion Show because her work is unique yet authentically Nepali. And everyone should go and check out Moda!

Three clothing items everybody should have and why
Everybody should have a pair of black denim skinny pants, a white t-shirt and the staple LBD. These three items can flatter your figure, can be dressed down or dressed up and looks great with anything.

Getting into fashion blogging and your blogging style 
I first got into fashion blogging when I discovered Tamding, and after going through her work, I was inspired to start a blog of my own. Even though I don’t blog right now, my Instagram (@hii.sanna) is where most of my fashion blogging happens. I wouldn’t say that my blogging style has a specific aesthetic as it goes with the flow, but I’m trying to stick to a consistent theme.

Any advice for up and coming fashion bloggers
New fashion bloggers should know that blogging isn’t just a pass time activity. A lot of dedication effort is needed for your content to be considered original and professional. 

Meaning and difference between fashion and style 
The main difference between fashion and style is that fashion involves new trends, brands and designs. Style on the other hand is an embodiment of your own lifestyle through the means of your attire. It is the interpretation of who you are and the personal touch that you add to fashion.
