Face captures different expressions

KATHMANDU, Nov 25: Park Gallery, Pulchowk is garnered with abstract painting by Sir Lankan artist Dr Manoranjana Herath. The exhibition ‘Face’ began on November 21.

According to Dr Herath the ‘Face’ is not just an identification of a person, it is a story of his/her background environment. It is an untold story of a person, a group or a situation of its culture and society. He added the it’s his attempt to catch those characters through the face and has tried to visualize those isolated and hopeful peoples’ expressions through the paintings.

He added, “When I do art work, I approach in different ways with different techniques using variety of mediums. I construct the basic forms with geometrical shapes with bolt lines and through that I try to see the different perceptions in major forms. It evokes emotions of the face through geometrical forms and various colors and textures.”

Dr Herath has been working in the field of art for more than two decades now and is still working in the field. He is also a senior lecturer in the department of sculpture in the University of Visual and Performing Arts in Colombo, Sri Lanka.  As a visual artist, Dr Herath has held 17 solo art exhibitions in major art galleries in his country and has participated in more than 35 national and international art exhibitions.
