This is the third year of the festival and the theme for this year is ‘Bridging gap between Nepal and Africa’. The festival, organized by College of Journalism and Mass Communication, will end on Thursday, June 20.[break]
Festival director, Dr Manju Misra pointed out that while the majority of Nepalis have a wide knowledge of the West, the same cannot be said about the African continent. “With the festival we’re hoping to change the mindset of the people about the widely reported poverty, civil war and hunger of Africa, and direct it towards the rich cultural and natural heritage of the continent. We hope that through the festival people will have a chance to explore the culture of Africa,” she said.
The festival is also aiming to promote tourism in Africa, as well as divert the interest of many Nepali workers who leave for Gulf countries every day. Dr Misra stated that perhaps it would be better if Nepali migrant workers looked to Africa where they can have a better chance at a good job than struggling in Gulf countries.
The festival will screen a total of 14 films during the three days of the event which was inaugurated with the screening of Earth Anthem, a short film by Indian
poet-diplomat Abhay K. Earth Anthem, originally a poem by Abhay K celebrates the diversity of the entire planet, has been sung in Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Hindi, Nepali, Russian and Spanish.
