KATHMANDU, Feb 2: Chief Executive Officer of Nepal Tourism Board (NTB) Dhananjay Regmi has been asked for a clarification within seven days.

CEO Regmi has been instructed to give an explanation to the board within seven days after the probe committee found that he had committed financial irregularities by abusing his authority.

A three-member investigation committee formed on December 17, 2021 under the chairmanship of Chandra Rijal, vice-chairman of the board, has ruled that CEO Regmi has caused financial loss in the construction and procurement process contrary to the Public Procurement Act.

According to Chandra Rijal, who is the coordinator of the committee, action will be taken on the basis of the reply given by CEO Regmi to the board as per the rules of the board. He said that Regmi has been given one week time for that.

According to a report submitted to Maheshwar Neupane, secretary at the Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation, who is also the Chairman of the NTB, on Tuesday, CEO Regmi has caused financial losses to the Board by involving more tourism entrepreneurs in World Travel Market (WTM) and assaulted staff of Customs Department at the Tribhuvan International Airport. The report has also accused him of being involved in the gold scam, transferring NTB staffers against the rules, arbitrary decisions and committing financial irregularities while implementing the Geographical Information System (GIS) project worth Rs 37.2 million.

It is mentioned in the report submitted by the committee that Regmi has gone beyond the decision while spending more causing losses to the NTB and is also involved in gold smuggling.
