Nepal Business Gabfest 2018 -- A panel discussion on the topic ‘Business Ethics and Ethical Self’ was held in the Thames International College premises, on Wednesday.
According to the press statement, the panel discussion brought five personalities with various profiles together. The session was a part of the two-day Nepal Business Gabfest 2018 organized by Thames International College in collaboration with Art of Living Corporate Programs Nepal, and World Forum for Ethics in Business Nepal. Neeva Mathema Pradhan moderated the discussion session.

Five speakers shared their experiences on the ethical challenges in their respective fields. Former National Planning Commission Chairman and former Nepali Ambassador to the US, Shankhar Sharma, opened the session by talking about the requirement of policies on ethical issues. Similarly, Asia Pacific Representative for Global Alliance for Banking on Values (GABV), Upendra Poudyal, explained how banking sectors had evolved, in terms of trend, the perception of people, and policies in the sector.
Brazilian Ambassador to Nepal, Maria Teresa Pessoa, talked about the UN Global Compact. She briefed about the guidelines and talked about its impact. Meanwhile, General Manager of Himal Power Limited, Sandip Shah, talked about the progress in the hydropower sector over the years. Finally, Chairman of SAARC Association of Architects (SAARCH),Kishore Thapa, talked about the bureaucratic system, the misconceptions and the lack of trust of the general public on the government and the system.
At the end of the session, the speakers answered questions from the students representing different colleges. The panel discussion was then followed by a plenary session with Lal Babu Pandit on the Topic: Bureaucracy: Resistance to Change, based on his book ‘Struggle to change Singhadurbar’.
