MYAGDI, April 3:  By repairing and reconstructing a battered road, a youth in Myagdi has won the hearts of the people. Bhanu Bhakta Thapa of Bhakimli has become a perfect example of the saying - “No one understands the pain better than the one who suffers”.

Thapa who has been entrusted with the responsibility of heading a Road Construction Consumers Committee (RCCC) is a former driver.

Understanding the hassles of road transportation for drivers, passengers and pedestrians, Thapa has changed the look of the road linking Bhakimly with Beni Municipality just within two months. The road has been repaired by utilizing the government budget as well as the donations collected from the locals.

"There were many places on the road that were prone to accidents. So, I paid good attention while repairing the road at those places," said Thapa. The government had sanctioned Rs 2.4 million for repairing the Beni-Bagarphant-Dudhekhola road section. However, that was not enough for the project. So, the locals collected Rs 500,000 through donations.

According to Thapa, the budget was carefully used for blacktopping, fencing and expanding the road at various places.

"We have made sure that not even a single penny is wasted in a wrong place," Thapa assured.  According to him, the road has been repaired with the objective of boosting the confidence of drivers and passengers and making them feel safe. Ward Chief Padam Pun commended the consumers committee for properly utilizing the budget. Representatives who had been to the village for inspection were astonished to see the road. Ward chief Pun further stated that it was possible because the chairperson of the committee was someone who was aware about every single bump and pothole and other problems on the road.

This road section will be benefiting 600 households of Bhakimli and many others. In 2010, when the track was opened, locals had constructed the road with their own money. With the reduction of traveling risks, locals are expecting the flow of tourists to their place will increase.
