KATHMANDU, May 9: The European Union has expressed its willingness to strengthen its partnership with Nepal and help the country become peaceful and prosperous.

Credible, transparent and inclusive elections in 2013 are essential to stabilizing the political situation and restoring crucial democratic institutions, read the EU statement, which also urged all the political and non-political people to contribute actively and responsibly to conclude the process.

“The EU has been significantly increasing the volume of aid over the last four decades of EU-Nepal cooperation which has now become the biggest provider of development aid to Nepal,” the statement read.

The EU has been supporting the Government and the people of Nepal, particularly in the fields of education, food security and rural development, good governance and the environment.

The Europe day is celebrated commemorating the anniversary of the Schuman Declaration 63 years ago, which laid the foundation of what is now the European Union.
