POKHARA, Sept 12: The British Council is facilitating a 9-million-euro project funded by the European Union (EU) for the improvement of technical and vocational education and training (TVET) in the country.

As the project chief stated, the project will start from November.

Speaking at the workshop, the project chief said that the target of the project was to produce efficient manpower and to create employment as per the concept of Public Private Partnership.

“In coordination with the private sector, we have a target to produce skilled manpower required for the agriculture, physical construction and tourism sectors,” he said: “It will help to reduce the number of youth who migrate in search of job.”  Increased participation of women in the labor market can reduce the lack of workers, he stated.

As Nepal lacked a precise basis for evaluating worker efficiency, the project aimed to develop a national criteria, to be valid internationally, for measuring efficiency in technical and professional training, he added.

Rabindra Bahadur Praju, acting president of PCCI said that the project would increase skilled manpower in the country. Likewise, Damu Adhikari, general secretary of PCCI, said that an investment on human resources would help Nepal’s private sector that is facing lack of skilled manpower.
